GCED for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies

The Keynote Session will be in the form of a panel talk among education policy makers. Each speaker will explain the status quo of GCED and other educational policies in their respective countries and share their views and expectations for the future of GCED. They will also discuss ways for partnership on various levels.

Panel Discussion: What does it mean to be a global citizen?

Representatives from various fields will be participating in a panel discussion to share their ideas on global citizenship. They will share their thoughts about what it means to be a global citizen and how to act as a global citizen in their respective fields. Speakers will also be discussing why they think global citizenship education is necessary and the features of GCED they think to be most important and essential.

Concurrent Workshop Session I: Actors of GCED

The first concurrent session is centered on the theme ‘Actors of GCED’. In the three sessions, three key actors that are implementing GCED – schools, teachers and youth – will be sharing their best practices of GCED. Participants will be able to gain practical insights from these case studies.

GCED Talks: Learning to Live Together

The GCED Talks, inspired by the popular TED Talks will host influential people in our society to share their ideas about living together. The presenters will share stories about their lives, their views about the world and tell how they act as global citizens through their work and in their daily lives.

Concurrent Session II: Practice and Pedagogy by Key Themes of GCED

With the increase of violence and terror around the world, the importance of global citizenship education and building a culture of peace is increasing day by day. Four themes that are pivotal pillars in GCED will be discussed. This session will be an active, participant-oriented session.

Concurrent Session III: Learning Process and Assessment

The last concurrent session features sessions that are related with the actual implementation of GCED. Sessions will cover designing, planning, teaching, and assessing the GCED classes. Participants will be able to gain practical know-hows and receive advice on many questions they had related to teaching GCED.

Closing Session: Way Forward: Building Sustainable Solidarity

In Closing Session, wrapping up the Conference, the speakers will propose the ways to build sustainable partnership in advancing and mainstreaming GCED across the generations and regions.
